The best running tracks in Hamburg

Take a break from everyday life and work on your fitness - and maybe even train for the half-marathon. Running is healthy, fun and can also have the nice side effect that you get to know your own city better. These ten most beautiful running tracks in Hamburg make it possible. They all have different lengths and degrees of difficulty. But they all have one thing in common: they all combine training with a great view of beautiful places in Hamburg while running.

Running in Stadtpark

It is easy to reach and offers the possibility for different long rounds: the Hamburg City Park. Here you can vary your running route. If you are a beginner, you run a small lap (between two and three kilometres). If you have some running experience, you can run five kilometres by running around the entire city park. And if you are a regular runner, you can create your own route with variations through the city park. As a starting point for this last variation, for example, the Winterhuder Marktplatz can be used. From there you run over the grass path directly into the park. Afterwards you walk through the sports facilities past the lake. By the way, from there you have a wonderful view of the planetarium. Afterwards you turn back into the park. Then you walk through the small forest to the planetarium and back to your starting point: the Winterhude market place.

Jogging through Volkspark in Hamburg Altona

Also through the park, this time in Altona, goes this beautiful running route. Since it is after all the largest park in Hamburg, this route is seven kilometres long. You drive to the S-Bahn station Stelling and start running from there immediately. Through the green into the Volkspark. You walk over several bridges and through a small forest. Then comes the trotting track and finally the Imtech Arena. Attention beginners: The course is quite hilly, so it can be quite strenuous. Those who are not yet used to running seven kilometres in a row can of course shorten the lap.

Enjoy Running next to the Elbe

Hamburg can be so much fun to run: While training with a wonderful view of the port of Hamburg with its large steamers and ships. There are several beautiful running routes along the Elbe. If you run from Ottensen to Teufelsbrück, for example, you will have a great view. The best place to start is at Königstraße or the Landungsbrücken. Then you always run past the Elbe. You pass the fish market, jog past the Elbe stand and the adjacent parks until you reach the ferry pier Teufelsbrück. An insider tip for an extra intensive running feeling: You can run through the sand in sections.

Running along the Alster

The Alster is the counterpart to jogging on the Elbe and also one of the most beautiful running tracks in Hamburg. Jogging along the Alster is one of the true classics of running in Hamburg. No wonder, because the view you have while running is simply uniquely beautiful. Furthermore, there are no traffic lights whatsoever on the route - so you can simply jog through without a break. Another motivating factor is that by going in circles, you are not tempted to shorten the route or give up. And: there are drinking water stations all along the route where you can refresh yourself.

Running with a dog

A really beautiful running track for nature fans with animal accompaniment is available in the Niendorf enclosure. Through the woods you run past the Kollaubach - directly past the animals. Then you reach the allotment gardens. On the way you can stop here and there to stroke moose or deer. Another plus: In between you can look at some beautiful estates. Do you like to walk on your own, without much hustle and bustle? Then this is one of the most beautiful running tracks in Hamburg for you!

Get into a sweat during the Dockland stair run

Running Hamburg in a different way: You want an intensive running training that you can do quickly - and still be incredibly effective? Then the stair run at the Dockland is ideal for you. 140 steps are waiting to be climbed. A mixture of fun and enormous effort. Once you reach the top, the reward is waiting for you: Because from up there you have a great panoramic view of the port of Hamburg. This stair run can of course be combined with great routes around the Dockland - for extra muscle ache the next morning.

Running training along the Leinpfad

This running course runs through the richest quarters of the city: it is located between Eppendorf, Harvestehude and Winterhude. The course lies between the idyllic Haynspark and the traditional restaurant Bobby Reich. While you are running along one of the most beautiful running tracks in Hamburg, it might well be that you are looking for well-heeled walkers.

Sprinting through Wilhelmsburg Inselpark

The park was built for the International Garden Show in 2013. For the people of Wilhelmsburg it has remained a beautiful island park. The park measures 100 hectares, one round takes about four kilometres. However, there is also a possibility to get to 6.5 kilometres: By running the recreational circuit. This runs over the Elbe islands, over Wilhelmsburg and finally the Veddel. If you can't make it to the cuckoo pond, take a break here - or change to the boat.

Training in Alsterdorf

You want water, but the bustle around the Elbe and Alster is too much for you? Then you can ideally do your running training in Alsterdorf. You start at the Winterhuder Fährhaus. From there you run to Haynspark. Then you continue along the Alster foothills to the cemetery in Ohlsdorf. On the way you will see pedal boats, beautiful houses and the Eppendorf moor. Here you will only meet a few dogs or families.

Running track along the Eilenau

You always walk along the water from the Outer Alster. until you arrive at the S-Bahn Friedrichstraße. Here too, you will meet far fewer people than at the Alster. Along the way you can marvel at houseboats. If you pass the HFBK art college, you will also get a little bit of that England feeling on top. The houses, in combination with the sand paths, remind you of the island country. If you walk there and back once, you've done six kilometres.
