What to do about migraine?

Migraine is one of the most common neurological complaints. 12 - 14 percent of women as well as 6 - 8 percent of all men suffer from the severe headaches. There are numerous helpful medications from conventional medicine that can be taken during an attack. However, a rethinking takes place with many people just in these times. There is an increased demand for home remedies or homeopathic remedies. We show you here different ways how you can get your pain attacks under control without chemical drugs.

Home remedies for the stinging, unpleasant headache

The stabbing and pulsating pain, which is usually still accompanied by nausea and other symptoms, cannot be combated with a medicinal herb growing in the wild alone. It often makes sense for patients to see a doctor and, if necessary, to take medication from conventional medicine. However, it can't hurt to stock up on homeopathic wonder drugs as well. Many sufferers can curb their pain attacks by using home remedies, making it easier to live with their condition.
If you plan to treat your pain with home remedies, you should inform your doctor. Homeopathic remedies can interact with your conventional medications.

Drink a lot against migraine attacks

When you drink a lot, your brain performance improves. Drinking a lot therefore not only has a positive effect on patients with migraine attacks. You should drink at least two liters a day. You can drink water or unsweetened teas. There are, for example, various teas which, due to their composition, have a beneficial effect on headaches as well as migraines.
You can fall back on, for example:
- Clove: For this, you simply add two cloves and some lemon juice to your tea. The clove has an analgesic effect. Here you may drink four to five cups throughout the day.
- Motherwort: This herb is also known as feverfew. You can use this to prevent a new attack of pain. So, you can drink a tea with motherwort before every meal in a period of two weeks.
- Chamomile flowers: Chamomile tea is the true all-rounder for numerous complaints. In addition, chamomile tea helps to relieve an attack of pain as well as abdominal pain that sometimes occurs.
Other types of tea can also have a soothing effect on these pains. These include, for example, lemon balm, ginkgo, ginger and oregano.

What else helps against migraine?

However, not only various teas have a positive effect on the attacks, but actually also coffee. This has a dilating effect on the blood vessels. You can also refine the coffee with the juice of half a lemon. However, coffee can also worsen the pain in some people. Therefore, you should try only those things that are good for you.
You also have the option of reaching for basil leaves when an attack occurs. These release essential oils, which are released optimally especially when you chew the leaves. St. John's wort can also relieve your pain. Simply prepare a fresh tea for this purpose. Ginger is also considered a true miracle cure. You can prepare a tea from it quickly and easily or chew it pure. To avoid the sour and bitter taste, you can also spread some honey on the ginger.
Aromatherapy also has a very good effect on the pain. It can effectively alleviate them. Peppermint oil has proven to be very effective. Make sure that it is a high-quality oil, which you can buy at the pharmacy, for example. You can apply this to your forehead, neck, and temples to effectively relieve the pain of migraines. Other helpful essential oils include lavender, green apple and eucalyptus.
Of course, patients with this pain should also pay attention to a balanced diet. This can help minimize the frequency of attacks. In addition, there are other home remedies you can use. These include salt ice packs, for example. If you suffer from a pain attack, you can put one part salt and four parts ice cubes in a bag. Place this bag on the painful area.
In addition, you can also try a rising foot bath once - if the attack is already approaching. For this you only need a small tub, which you fill with 32 degrees warm water and put your feet into it. For the next 20 minutes, you should always fill the tub with a little hot water until the temperature reaches 42 degrees. This home remedy - just like coffee - dilates the blood vessels and can have a soothing effect on the stinging pain. So a soothing rising foot bath is just what you need if you suffer from attacks. Running cold water over your wrists can also have a positive effect on your pain sensation.
Despite intensive research and scientific development, this type of pain cannot be cured. Often various environmental influences are triggers for renewed attacks. But also too much stress, the wrong food or emotional stress can aggravate the attacks. It is helpful to keep a diary. Here you can write down the situations in which the stabbing pains occur and then avoid them in the future. In this way, you will suffer less frequently and regain more zest for life and well-being.

In case of stabbing pain nevertheless do not avoid sports

Numerous people would like to lose a few pounds and therefore go to the gym or complete their exercises at home. Patients with recurring stabbing pain attacks often tend to exercise less frequently. However, this behavior does not always have a positive effect on the symptoms. It is assumed that similar physiological processes occur in the brain during exercise as during pain.
similar physiological processes take place in the brain as during a pain attack - only not in such a strong form. Regular exercise should therefore strengthen patients as well as toughen them up.
Increasing your own fitness level can reduce the frequency of migraine headaches. In doing so, you should not exert yourself too much, as this will have the exact opposite effect. Sports like functional fitness increase your well-being and have a positive effect on your pain attacks.
If you integrate endurance sports into your daily routine and practice them regularly, this will have a positive effect on your cardiovascular system as well as your metabolism and blood pressure. Sport also helps you to reduce stress. So regular endurance training has a positive effect on your nervous system and can help minimize attacks.
The aim of the training is above all that you do not overexert yourself. Your heart rate should be continuously elevated, but you should still be able to talk easily. Only during an acute pain attack should you refrain from endurance sports. Here the movement can have an aggravating effect on your pain. Instead of endurance training, you can simply take a short walk in the fresh air during an attack. However, this also varies from person to person. Some people benefit from a walk during an attack, others prefer to hide in a dark room and close their eyes. It is important that you always listen to your body and only do what is good for you.
