Sports against stress: These sports exercises help to reduce stress

Many of us probably don't even know what it feels like to get through the day without stress. However, since this permanent state of excitement is anything but healthy, here are some sports exercises that will help you to reduce stress and lead to a healthier life.

What is stress and how does it arise?

Many people suffer from stress almost every day. As soon as a situation arises that doesn't feel solvable, we feel stress. This stress is noticeable, for example, through elevated blood pressure. Muscle tension, a faster heartbeat, or an accelerated breathing rate are also signs of stress in the body. In theory, this isn't a bad thing. In stressful situations, the body releases hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, which serve to activate and prepare the body for a fight or flight response. However, stress should not be a permanent condition as, as mentioned above, it is designed for dangerous situations.

Why is prolonged stress unhealthy?

The hormone cortisol makes the body alert. However, if you are permanently stressed and, as a result, the cortisol level is increased for a longer period of time, you often have problems sleeping because the body cannot find rest. It is also known that stress can increase body weight. Hormones play a crucial role in that. Some people with high cortisol levels feel the need for high-sugar foods, which can ultimately lead to weight gain. In view of this, sport against stress is even more important, since exercise not only keeps the hormone balance, but also burns excess calories at the same time.

Sports exercises to reduce stress

It is important to keep your hormone levels in balance so that you do not gain weight due to stress or become seriously ill. This means: reducing stress hormones or promoting stress-reducing hormones. Sounds simple and it is. Researchers found that just 30 minutes of exercise a day can significantly reduce stress in the body. If you exercise regularly, you can create so-called "stress buffers"; the body releases fewer stress hormones and the stress level remains correspondingly low.

The most important thing, however, is that you enjoy the exercise. It's not about breaking distance or speed records, it's just about the movement. Sport against stress should not be an additional burden for you, but rather a balance. Maybe you can do one of the following exercises with friends or family, then the exercise will be even more fun. Don't be afraid to try new things, even if you haven't found your dream sport yet.
Tip 1: Going for a walk

Going for a walk is a great way to reduce stress and at the same time easily integrate it into everyday life. You can either go to the bakery in the morning and get some fresh air and good energy for the day, or you can go for a short walk through the forest with your family after work. Here you can not only spend a good time with your loved ones, but also reduce your stress enormously at the same time. It's not for nothing that walking is called the "nature pill".

Tip 2: Endurance sports

Endurance sports are true miracle cures for reducing stress. Through exercise, the body releases happiness hormones such as endorphins and serotonin and at the same time fights the existing stress hormones. Good endurance sports to reduce stress can include jogging, walking or cross-country skiing. However, many other sports also have an endurance character.
If you're not so good at motivating yourself to go jogging, ball sports like handball or soccer might be something for you! Here you hardly notice the kilometres covered and have fun with friends at the same time. If you are not so good on foot, you can also use the bike. The following applies to all endurance sports: start slowly and gradually increase. You will notice that with regular training you will make rapid progress and at the same time be more relaxed.

In our EVO Studios you can slowly get used to endurance sports and are completely independent of the weather. Our professional trainers will be happy to advise you on your arrival which equipment is best for you and which goals you can set yourself here. Do you live in Hamburg, Berlin or Düsseldorf? Then arrange a free and non-binding trial session now.

p 3: Yoga

You don't necessarily have to leave the house to reduce stress - exercise against stress is also very easy to do at home. You can find a large number of yoga instructions on the Internet. Contrary to some myths about this sport, yoga is not about acrobatics, but much more about conscious breathing. These techniques can reduce stress levels.

Tip 4: Workout

Workouts consist of different exercises that use different muscle groups. These often intense sessions can reduce stress while keeping your body fit. If you have physical limitations, it is best to ask your doctor which exercises would be best for you. Since people often gain weight due to stress you must pay particular attention to finding suitable exercises if you are overweight.
The coaches in our EVO fitness studios will also be happy to advise you competently. In our studio you will find a selected number of professional and high-quality devices that will make your workout even easier. If you enjoy the exercises, you can build muscle very efficiently at the same time, continuously increase your goals and thus build up long-lasting, healthy fitness. Arrange a trial session now and visit our modern studios in person.

Conclusion

Using sport against stress pays off in many ways. You may spend time in nature, away from smartphones, laptops and the like. However, if this is too boring for you, you can involve friends or family, or visit one of our EVO studios.
